The Cambodia Retirement Visa (ER) – Overview and Eligibility

The Cambodia Retirement Visa allows individuals to stay in the Kingdom for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months, with the option to renew the extension indefinitely. If you extend for 1 or 3 months, the extension is single-entry, which means you cannot leave Cambodia and re-enter on that same visa; you would need to obtain a new visa to return. If you want multiple-entry privileges, choose a 6- or 12-month extension.

To be eligible, you must be 55 years of age or older, although there may be exceptional cases.

You will also need to provide proof that you are retired and no longer employed. This can include documents such as a pension statement or a social security entitlement letter.

Applicants must also demonstrate sufficient financial resources to support themselves while residing in Cambodia. Bank statements or a statement from a pension provider can be used as proof of funds.

Application Process

Applying for a Cambodian retirement visa is relatively straightforward.

  • Step 1 – Apply for a Business/Ordinary (E-Type) Visa: Apply at a Cambodian embassy or consulate, or online through the e-Visa platform. The E-Type Visa allows you to enter Cambodia and stay for 30 days.
  • Step 2 – Apply for the Retirement Visa (Extension of Stay, EOS): Once in Cambodia, apply at the immigration office or through a visa agent.
  • Passport validity: Ensure your passport has at least 6 months of validity.
  • Health insurance: Not required for the visa, but highly recommended, especially for retirees.

Note: Once you have your E-type visa extended, you will notice ER on your new visa sticker.
