Equinox Angkor – 21 to 23 September 2025 | 5:00 AM – 6:30 AM
The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Berlin is pleased to highlight the upcoming Equinox Angkor event, a rare and fascinating solar phenomenon that takes place at the magnificent Angkor Wat temple in Siem Reap, Kingdom of Cambodia. From 21 to 23 September 2025, between 5:00 AM and 6:30 AM, visitors will have the extraordinary opportunity to witness the sun rising precisely above the central tower of Angkor Wat, creating a breathtaking and unforgettable sight.
The Equinox Angkor showcases the remarkable achievements of the Khmer ancestors, whose architectural mastery and astronomical precision shaped the design and layout of Angkor Wat. The temple’s orientation, land arrangement, and structural alignment were meticulously planned based on celestial movements, religious beliefs, and natural phenomena.
This event occurs twice a year:
Vernal Equinox – between 21 and 23 March
Autumnal Equinox – between 21 and 23 September
During these periods, thousands of local and international visitors gather in front of the western entrance of Angkor Wat to witness the stunning sunrise and capture its beauty through photographs. The Equinox Angkor has become one of Cambodia’s most iconic attractions, drawing global attention and promoting Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage.
For travelers and photography enthusiasts, the Equinox Angkor is a truly memorable experience, a perfect harmony between nature, history, and culture.
