Important Travel Update for Phnom Penh Visitors Cambodia marked a historic milestone on Tuesday, 9 September 2025 , with the official inauguration of Techo International Airport (KTI) — the country’s largest aviation infrastructure project and one of the world’s biggest airports by land area. Developed by Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd. (CAIC) — a subsidiary of Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) in partnership with the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) — KTI represents Cambodia’s commitment to modern infrastructure and its growing role in regional air connectivity. A New Gateway to Cambodia In its first phase, Techo International Airport has the capacity to handle 13 million passengers annually , positioning Phnom Penh as a fast-growing aviation hub. The airport is expected to boost tourism, facilitate trade, and enhance Cambodia’s integration into international air networks. To ensure world-class service standards, CAIC has partnered with global leaders such as: Vinci Airports – airport operations and management Lagardère Travel Retail – duty-free and retail services Newrest – catering and hospitality Singapore Airlines Engineering Company (SIAEC) – aircraft maintenance These collaborations will enable KTI to serve regional travelers more efficiently and gradually expand long-haul routes, strengthening Cambodia’s global connectivity. Important Notice for Travelers: PNH → KTI For travelers heading to Phnom Penh , please note that Techo International Airport (KTI) replaces the former Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) as the capital’s primary gateway starting 9 September 2025 . When completing visa applications, travel documents, or flight bookings , you should now select KTI as the entry point instead of PNH . Some platforms may still display PNH if their systems have not yet been updated. In such cases, please double-check with your airline or travel provider. We have received reports of travelers mistakenly believing they are flying to Kratie Province because the KTI code was previously assigned to a smaller commercial airport there, which has since ceased operations. The code has now been officially reassigned to Techo International Airport. As of this publication, we have not learned of any decision regarding whether the code PNH will be reused for the new airport. On 27 May 2025, H.E. Ambassador CHHEANG Thyra attended the ASEAN–New Zealand working lunch hosted by the Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, in its capacity as the rotating Chair of the Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC). The event brought together H.E. Craig John Hawke, Ambassador of New Zealand, and the Heads of the 10 ASEAN diplomatic missions. The working lunch reviewed the progress of ASEAN–New Zealand cooperation over the past 50 years and discussed New Zealand’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its engagement with ASEAN. It also marked the 50th anniversary of ASEAN–New Zealand relations.

On 23 May 2025, His Excellency Ambassador CHHEANG Thyra signed the book of condolences at the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Berlin, paying tribute to the late His Excellency Tran Duc Luong, former State President of Vietnam, who passed away on 20 May 2025.

On May 20, 2025, His Excellency Ambassador Chheang Thyra, accompanied by Mr. Mao Piseth, Second Secretary, attended the first meeting of the Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC), held under the chairmanship of the Embassy of Laos. The meeting focused on discussing future action plans and gathering input for the upcoming ASEAN–New Zealand Working Lunch, scheduled for May 27, 2025.

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the Royal Embassy of Cambodia hosted a vibrant celebration of Sangkrant (Khmer New Year), welcoming approximately 280 participants, including members of the Cambodian diaspora and around 90 foreign guests. The festivities featured traditional Cambodian games such as Boh Angkunh, tug-of-war, scarf hiding, and leaf snatching. Guests enjoyed a communal feast and danced in a lively and joyous atmosphere filled with unity, warmth, and camaraderie.

On March 31, 2025, at the Embassy of Myanmar in Berlin, His Excellency CHHEANG Thyra, Ambassador, signed the book of condolences dedicated to the victims of the tragic earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025. The earthquake resulted in the loss of many lives and caused extensive destruction to infrastructure.

On March 28, 2025, His Excellency Ambassador CHHEANG Thyra attended the 102 nd   Anniversary of the German-Asia Pacific Business Association (OAV) in Hamburg, presided over by His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal President of Germany. During the event, His Excellency Ambassador held brief discussions with several German business representatives, sharing insights on investment opportunities and tourism potential in Cambodia.

On 12 March 2025, H.E. Ambassador Chheang Thyra welcomed His Excellency Chittipat Tongprasroeth, the new Thai Ambassador to Germany, for a courtesy call at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia. During the meeting, Ambassador Thyra highlighted the achievements of the Royal Embassy of Cambodia during its six-month chairmanship of the Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC), which concluded in February 2025. He emphasized the role of the committee in strengthening solidarity and fostering a unified voice among ASEAN Embassies in Germany. Both ambassadors also exchanged views on key regional and international issues.

On 9 March 2025, His Excellency Ambassador CHHEANG Thyra attended a meeting hosted by His Excellency HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism. The meeting brought together Ambassadors, Permanent Representative s, and Consuls General of Cambodia abroad to discuss enhancing cooperation in the tourism sector. After the meeting, His Excellency Ambassador also paid a courtesy call on the Minister.

On 18 February 2025, His Excellency Chheang Thyra, Ambassador, chaired the 5th Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC) Meeting and officially handed over the Rotating Chairmanship to the Embassy of the Lao PDR for the next six months starting in March 2025.
